Some people believe famous people's support towards international aid organizations draws the attention to problems, while others think celebrities make the problems less important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
With increasingly number of famous people involved in international aid programs, some people believe it is certainly good to the aid campaigns, while others argue that it actually makes the general public less attentive to the programs themselves. I think celebrities can contribute a lot to such campaigns.
An obvious advantage is that international charity groups can make use of “celebrity effect” to draw more media attention and let more people recognize the importance of a certain issue. Therefore, with famous people cutting in there, the international aid organizations can publicize their programs more effectively. At the same time, the general public who are watching the whole process, especially fans, will answer the appeal of their beloved idols and take concrete actions such as donating money to help deal with problems in other areas and countries.
On the contrary, sometimes the appearance of famous stars in aid campaigns can do harm. That is because the star agents pay too much attention to promote the stars themselves, which, no matter consciously or unconsciously, makes the public forget all about the people in great in need and cheer for their idols instead. As a result, the aid campaigns seem less serious than they are supposed to be. What’s more, some celebrities’ private life, which is not as positive as that they behave in front of screen, such as abusing drugs, is exposed and arouses negative attitudes of the public. The general public will never respect those irresponsible celebrities and never trust the campaigns they promote.
From my point of view, celebrities participating in aid programs may bring some undesirable influences, but advantages overweigh disadvantages. The premise is that famous people should set a good example for the public and their off-screen behaviors should be consistent with what they publicize. Only in this way, can they do concrete help to international aid programs.
